Eileen Gray was born in Ireland and studied drawing and the technique of oriental lacquer in London and Paris where she exhibited her works for the first time in 1913. Surrounded by members of the 'Union des Artistes Modernes' such as Pierre Chareau and René Herbst, her work was noticed by the architects Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier and Mallet-Stevens. She associates herself with Evelyn Wyld, great artist in weaving art. Together they realize marvelous carpets with designs close to the Stijl or Russian Constructivism Art. In 1924, encouraged by the architect founder of the magazine 'Architecture Vivante', Jean Badovici, Eileen Gray undertook studies in architecture which resulted in the creation of the house E-1027 at Roquebrune. Her life's work is distinguished by luxurious and meticulously finished objects in rigorously functional style.
