Signed: Hagop

Hagop Kapoudjian (1870-1946) and Zareh Penyamin (1890-1949) were renowned masterweavers of the Kum Kapi workshops. They signed most of their pieces.

Kumkapi ('sand gate') is along the shores of the Marmara Sea. Many  Armenians were living at the end of the 19th century in this quarter of Istanbul.

This piece has some damage and has been mounted on a canvas.
