Walter Van Beirendonck was born in Brecht on 4 February 1957. He was one of the Group of Six who revolutionised the world of fashion in Antwerp. The collections of Dirk Van Saene, Dries van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Marina Yee, Dirk Bikkembergs and Walter Van Beirendonck were enthusiastically received far beyond Belgium's borders and established Antwerp as a major international fashion city.

Walter Van Beirendonck's bold designs are inspired by nature and the aestheticism of the primitive arts. They bear witness to an overflowing and highly colourful imagination.

In addition to his collections, he has been involved in numerous projects. He designed an original 'outfit' for the Nissan Micra in 2004, for the Toneelgroep Amsterdam he created the costumes for the play 'Massacre in Paris' directed by Ivo Van Hove (2001), and he designed the costumes for a ballet at the Palais Garnier (2012), to name but a few of his many creations.
