Kelardasht is a valley in the North of Teheran. More than twenty charming villages lie in that valley along the road towards the Caspian Sea. The lanscape is sumptuous and the wooden farmhouses almost remind of Swiss chalets. The fertile soil offers a regular income to the local families. The women weave rugs as well and that means a second income to the families. The patterns are rather simple and geometrical and remind of the Caucasian patterns but the sizes are a lot bigger. The weavers easily reach 3 x 4 m. The village rugs, produced inside the houses on small looms are small but in Kelardasht looms are placed along the outside walls of the houses. Every village has his own traditional pattern in predominant aubergine and rust colours.
